Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting Travel Grant

Purpose: To financially assist students who might not otherwise be able to attend the Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting.

Description: Two grants of $up to $1,000.00 from the Michigan Chapter will be awarded to applicants who meet the criteria laid out herein. Awards are provided directly to selected applicants and should be used to defray costs of meeting attendance. Preference will be given to those candidates who are presenting at the Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting.

Eligibility criteria: This award is available only to those currently enrolled in a degree program in a Michigan college or university and a member of the Michigan Chapter of the American Fisheries Society in good standing (https://michigan.fisheries.org/about/join-us-2/).

Documentation required: A letter from the student applicant that includes: student’s name, affiliation, address, telephone number, degree level, reasons for wishing to attend the meeting, and reasons why financial assistance is needed.

Selection criteria: The Executive Committee will evaluate the nominee or nominees based on the following criteria: (1) AFS involvement (reasons for attending the meeting), (2) whether or not the student is presenting, and (3) financial need.

Frequency of Award: The committee will select up to two awards for up to $2,000 with a cap of $1,000/person.
